EMAIL TO STAKEHOLDERS.
Dear Mario (CEO) and Luigi (CTO),
I hope this email finds you well. After careful consideration, I’ve decided to conduct one summative study to assess the overall usability of our website. Since formative studies are recommended at the beginning of the development cycle (and our website is past that stage already), the most indicated will be a summative study.
Some other reasons behind this decision are the following:
- A summative study will provide a better understanding of the user experience and help us determine and evaluate major issues or benefits that need to be addressed. We already have a time constraint, and it is essential to identify soon how easy and friendly the website is for the testers and if it meets their needs. Conducting more than one formative study could lead to mixed results, and identifying potential concerns with the website may take longer to solve. The website won’t be ready for the Super Bowl if we do two formative studies.
- This study will give us a larger user sample with very valuable and accurate data. Their feedback on the website’s usability will be based on their performance (not perceptions or feelings), reflecting what is happening during the test and increasing the statistical significance of our results, allowing us to make better-informed decisions.
Overall, conducting one summative study will be the most effective and straightforward approach. We can measure and count the data by only focusing on the tester’s behavior and see how well they can perform different tasks within the website to help us identify significant usability problems to make any necessary changes before the Super Bowl.
Best regards,
[Daniela Diez]
